International cooperation with Baden-Württemberg

Baden-Württemberg is an internationally recognised business and research hub with a lot to offer. For many years, GIZ has been building bridges from Baden-Württemberg throughout the world. Our partners abroad benefit from Baden-Württemberg’s know-how in areas including energy, structural change, and climate change mitigation.

In the region, we support German companies and organisations in developing and implementing international cooperation arrangements and projects.

Our aim is to bring together actors from the worlds of policy-making, academia, business and civil society to share potential across national borders – for sustainable development, for our clients and commissioning parties, and for a cosmopolitan and future-facing Baden-Württemberg.

Local action. A global presence.

GIZ works in more than 130 countries around the world and is represented in virtually every federal state in Germany. For many years, our commissioning parties and partners in Baden-Württemberg have included the state government, municipal institutions, civil society organisations, and universities; we have been cooperating with these bodies particularly in the areas of education and training for sustainable development and in a wide range of international vocational education and training projects.

We also cooperate closely with private sector businesses, chambers of trade and industry, and business associations. Many international experts and managers have completed placements in Baden-Württemberg companies as part of their technical and management training. As a result, a wide range of long-term contacts and business relationships have developed between the German private sector and companies abroad.

The Malaysia Programme at Universities for Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg, which enables Malaysian students to study for a degree in Baden-Württemberg, is one example of our long-standing cooperation arrangements with universities in this federal state.
