Renewable energy solution for Schwarzwald Eisenhandel Gmbh & Co. KG in Lahr
Before Schwarzwald Eisenhandel GmbH & Co. KG from Lahr decided to invest in a future-oriented and independent energy supply, the approx. 800 m² flat roof hall and two production halls were supplied with a conventional mix of purchased electricity and fossil fuels. Previously, the production halls were uninsulated and unheated, while the warehouse with office wing was supplied with gas heat using radiators and partial underfloor heating.

The first step towards more efficient energy use was the complete renovation of the dilapidated hall roof (3,000 m²) and the installation of a photovoltaic system with 738 kW peak both on the new hall roof and on the existing flat roof. focusEnergie carried out extensive electrical work on the grid connection, including civil engineering and the installation of a new 1250 kVA transformer station. Sufficient reserves were planned for the connected load, as not only will the heat be supplied electrically in future, but nothing stands in the way of a later installation of electric vehicle charging stations (possibly with a PV carport). In future, heat will be supplied to the storage, exhibition and office areas by a heat pump system, while high-performance infrared radiators in the halls will ensure a pleasant climate at the respective workstations.
The company's entire power supply for light, heat and production is now generated by the photovoltaic system, including surplus power fed into the public grid.
As an electricity storage system does not yet appear to be economical, green electricity is still purchased from the grid on a pro rata basis.
With these measures, Schwarzwald Eisenhandel GmbH is in fact already more than climate-neutral in terms of its energy supply, and sector coupling has also been implemented where this makes sense today. The networked system components are optimally coordinated with each other and are digitally monitored remotely by focusEnergie.
A PV carport and charging infrastructure for electromobility will be added to the system in summer 2022.
