Information
The core competencies of the Thin Film Technology (TFT) working group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT ) are the mathematical description and experimental research into the coating and drying of thin organic and inorganic films. Functional layers for various applications such as basic particle polymer layers, organic electronics (OLED), battery electrodes (LiB, SiB), catalyst coated membranes (CCM) for green hydrogen production by electrolysis and fuel cells or biofilms for pharmaceutical applications have been and are being investigated.
State-of-the-art coating and printing laboratories are available as infrastructure in which coating and drying processes for various applications can be researched from laboratory scale to application-oriented pilot scale. Unique dryers enable targeted investigations into the influence of various drying parameters. Extensive characterization equipment is also available. Material transport models and process simulations are developed and validated from and with experimental data.
