The department of Life Cycle Engineering LCE / LBP-GaBi at the University of Stuttgart has 25 years expertise in the field of LCA, LCC, S-LCA as well in EU funded projects. The department is developer of the well known LCA Software GaBi and was further involved into current ELCD / ILCD (European / International Reference Life Cycle Data System) activities of the EU. An interdisciplinary scientific team works on LCA for several industrial fields of applications (plastics (fossil and bio-based), composites, SMC, carbon fibre and other fibre reinforced materials, chemistry and biotechnology, metals, automotive, aviation, electronics, transport, energy supply (renewable and non renewable), packaging, building and construction, etc.). Further experience in related fields and methods like Carbon Footprint CF, Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage CCS, was gained.
With the implementation of economic and social aspects to the LCA, known as Life Cycle Costing LCC and social LCA S-LCA, the group is capable of analysis the sustainability of products and technologies, both in industry applications and research projects.
