Fraport Wastewater Treatment Plant at Frankfurt Airport, Germany

As part of the expansion of Frankfurt/Main Airport, the operating company Fraport expanded and replaced the existing wastewater treatment plant while it remained in operation. Fichtner prepared the technical design for the contracted general contractor. The wastewater treatment process was expanded from basic biological treatment to complete nitrogen and phosphorus removal using the SBR process, all while operations continued.

El Milagro Drinking Water Treatment Plant in Tumbes, Peru

Fichtner Water & Transportation was commissioned to design the optimization and expansion of the El Milagro drinking water treatment plant (Plant 3). The plant was to be built in the area where the primary settling tanks and the existing Plants 1 and 2 of the drinking water treatment plant were located. In addition, a new water intake on the Tumbes River was to be planned, along with the corresponding pressure pipelines, taking the design discharge into account.

Replacement Construction of the Beihingen Weir on the Neckar River, Germany

The Beihingen weir was built between 1913 and 1915 as part of the construction of the power plant canal and the Pleidelsheim power plant. It is located at Neckar km 154.340, approximately 100 m downstream from the junction with the Pleidelsheim side canal. Due to the long period of use of the weir complex, various structural defects were identified in the concrete and steel hydraulic engineering components. The complete redesign of the entire weir complex, the fish ladder (both upstream and downstream), and the hydroelectric power plant was carried out through a collaborative effort by a consortium of engineering firms.
