Information
Cyclize GmbH, an innovative deep-tech spin-off from the University of Stuttgart, is driving forward the defossilization of the chemical industry. Using a proprietary plasma technology, the company converts difficult-to-recycle, carbon-rich waste materials and industrialCO2 emissions into high-quality synthesis gas. Cyclize thus closes the carbon cycle: complex waste streams are reactivated as valuable secondary raw materials and carbon sources for the chemical industry.
Technology
The heart of the process is electrically driven, non-thermal plasma reforming. High-energy electrons split the chemical bonds (C-H, C-C, C-O) of unsorted, complex carbon carriers in the plasma reactor. The resulting reactive fragments recombine in a controlled manner to form a pure, defined synthesis gas (a mixture of hydrogen H2 and carbon monoxide CO)
The process is fully electrified and can be operated with 100% green electricity. Compared to classic recycling or gasification processes, Cyclize's plasma technology is characterized by its significant robustness against impurities and high flexibility in the use of various aggregate states (solid, liquid, gaseous).
Founder & Team
Cyclize was founded by an interdisciplinary team of top researchers from the University of Stuttgart: Dr. Stephan Renninger, Maike Lambarth, Jan Stein and Dominik Novakovic founded the company in 2023, supported by an existing research transfer grant. Thanks to the subsequent seed financing of almost 5 million euros from renowned deep-tech investors (including UVC Partners, Aurum, HTGF High-Tech Gründerfonds), a pilot plant was built that already covers all stages of the industrial process, including before and after plasma reforming. in 2026, the team will grow to 30 people to accompany the step towards the first industrial implementation in a chemical park.
Cyclizel solves three acute, global challenges:
1. Replacement of fossil raw material sources for the petrochemical and chemical industry
2.
Material recycling of complex waste, from household waste to industrial waste
3. Material recycling of CO₂ from point sources
.
Services
Circular value creation from a single source - scalable from validation tests to large-scale on-site systems
Cyclize offers industrial and waste management companies a modular path to recycling their residual materials. The offer is divided into the following modules:
- "Test Your Waste" - validation & test series (the gateway): Companies are often faced with the challenge that their specific residual material streams are highly contaminated or chemically complex. Cyclize offers standardized and tailor-made test series for this.
- Cyclize uses its own validation platforms (up to a 50 kW pilot plant) to qualify customer substrates in terms of their carbon recovery potential.
- plasma reforming plants (the core product): Cyclize develops, builds and operates plasma reforming plants.
- These highly efficient units are designed for continuous operation directly in industrial environments (e.g. chemical parks).
- Synthesis gas as a drop-in solution: The circular synthesis gas produced meets the highest industrial purity standards. It serves as a direct, fossil-free 1:1 replacement (drop-in) for established synthesis routes for the production of basic chemicals, methanol, plastics or e-fuels - without customers having to modify their existing downstream infrastructure.
