Silphie fibers are obtained from the silphie plant and are processed using a biothermal process. These fibers serve as a new raw material for fiber-based products and are processed without chemicals and with minimal use of water and energy. The remaining plant components are fed into the biogas plant as a fermentation substrate. Through additional processing, such as grinding, the fiber can be adapted to individual customer requirements for optimal functionality in further processing.

We sell papers with Silphie fibers in a basis weight range from 60 g/m². Our Silphie paper qualities - SilphiePaper, SilphieLiner and SilphieBoard - are suitable for a wide range of different paper applications. SilphiePaper is available from a basis weight of 60 gsm and is particularly suitable for paper bags, labels, banderoles and sleeves. Our SilphieLiner is available from a basis weight of 100 gsm and can be used for corrugating medium, liners for corrugated board production and fruit and vegetable trays. SilphieBoard is available in basis weights between 200-450 gsm and can be used for folding cartons and sleeves, among other things.

Some products in Kaufland's natural cosmetics line, bevola naturals, are available in packaging with 35% Silphie fibers.
The material used here is SilphieBoard with 200-450 gsm for folding boxes or banderoles.

The natural brownish color of our material is the result of not using chemical bleaching and is therefore also in line with the conviction behind natural cosmetics. Together with Procter & Gamble, we have launched another result of our partnership in the development of innovative packaging: Ariel is now using the fibers of the Silphie plant as the raw material for the outer carton of a large container with 76 PODS for the first time. The special edition, which Ariel developed in collaboration with us, has been available at food retailer Lidl in Germany since mid-April 2024.

Under the motto #papierverändert, we have joined forces with P&G to create innovative primary and secondary packaging and successfully establish it on the market. In December 2021, displays from Gillette, Always and other P&G brands made from Silphie paper went on sale via Lidl and Kaufland.

Lidl's own organic brand apples are also packaged in Silphie paper. SilphieLiner in grammages of 100 and 115 gsm is used for the apple skin. With the Silphie packaging, the organic apples are now packaged in a particularly environmentally friendly and sustainable way. Not only do the apples come from the Lake Constance region, but the Silphie fibers used as the basis for the paper are also sourced there. With low water and energy consumption and without the use of chemicals, the fibers are separated from the energy plant Silphie and made usable as a new raw material for the paper industry.

The organic apple has now found its perfect skin. True to the motto: Birds of a feather flock together!
