The UHRIG Group has been active in the water management sector for 60 years and has long specialized in heavy-duty sewer construction. In 2007, we ventured into a new field: energy generation. Our goal: to harness what has previously been lost unused—the residual energy in wastewater.
The figures are impressive: The residual thermal energy from wastewater alone could cover up to 15% of the heating demand in the building sector in Germany. Wastewater energy derived from wastewater heat is thus a key component of the heating transition.
To date, we have successfully implemented more than 125 wastewater heat projects across Europe. In 2019, the energy business was spun off into UHRIG Energie GmbH. The vision: To revolutionize the heating market with energy from wastewater and finally kickstart the heating transition. We are ready to do this with a patented and proven solution.
We offer planning, construction, installation, and operation of our systems. At our headquarters in Baden-Württemberg, we launched automated mass production in 2022, enabling us to manufacture our heat exchangers using 100% on-site PV electricity.

Products
In the channel: Therm-Liner A
Type A is installed in conventional gravity-flow channels. It does not matter whether the channel is new or existing. The heat exchanger system is retrofitted using a modular design and can be removed at the end of its service life.
In the channel: Therm-Liner B
Type B is installed in traditional gravity-flow channels. It does not matter whether the channel is new or existing. The heat exchanger system is retrofitted using a modular design and can be removed at the end of its service life.
Therm-Liner C - Bypass Type C
UHRIG heat exchangers are also used in pressure pipelines, in which case they are designated as Type C. Pressure pipelines are not accessible, so civil engineering work is required for installation. In most cases, a section of the pressure pipeline is replaced with a new section of pipeline that includes an integrated heat exchanger.
Therm-Liner Stack
The Therm-Liner Stack is used at wastewater treatment plants, as a bypass for conventional channels, or in river and lake water projects. The Stack solution is a flexible all-rounder that can be used wherever Therm-Liner A and B are not feasible. The Stack system can be dismantled or uninstalled at the end of its service life.
