Information
More than half of the energy used in the production process is lost because it cannot be put to other uses or because doing so is not economically feasible. For waste heat temperatures below 200 °C—the temperature range that accounts for 70% of all waste heat generated by manufacturing companies—there is usually no further use at all.
Our solution to this is to generate electricity from exhaust air and exhaust gases for on-site use. And this is possible even at lower exhaust air temperatures of just over 100 degrees and for smaller waste heat volumes of around 300 kW of usable waste heat—for which there is currently no comparable solution on the market. Specifically: a small 20kWel PowerQube ORC module effectively converts waste heat starting at 110 °C into clean electricity and, depending on the temperature and amount of waste heat, can produce up to 180 MWh of electricity per year while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions by up to 80 metric tons annually. The direct utilization of waste heat without an intermediate circuit is a unique selling point, making the system simpler, more space-efficient, and more efficient at lower costs, as does the use of a sustainable, climate-friendly working fluid.
With the PowerQube power plant, SOOMIQ offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and locations of large companies an excellent solution to effectively convert unused and excess waste heat from production processes into clean electricity, which can be immediately reused within the company for other applications or, by storing the thermal waste heat in a buffer storage tank, converted into electricity at a later time using the PowerQube.
Our PowerQube solution is designed for customers in the fields of metal processing, automotive manufacturing, mechanical engineering, paper and decorative materials manufacturing, glass and ceramics, brick and sand-lime brick processing, chemicals, or food processing—all companies that generate unused waste heat from production processes in the lower temperature range of under 200 °C.
Now: the final step toward the PowerQube.
Services
We would be happy to prepare an initial cost-benefit analysis for you to show how the use of one or more PowerQube modules would pay off for your business. BAFA grants for ORC systems and heat exchangers can also be factored into the calculation.
Products
Complete system consisting of a PowerQube, control cabinet, heat exchanger, and condenser
Projects
Setup of the PowerQube Prototype Test Bench at KIT-ITES
The near-production PowerQube prototype will soon be set up, tested, and optimized at the Institute for Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES) on the North Campus of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). There, the PowerQube unit—which features an integrated control cabinet—will be used in conjunction with a waste heat source. For the subsequent 0-series, we are interested in additional pilot customers with diverse applications and from various industries.
